Electro-optic modulators are used in a variety of applications to either amplitude-modulate (AM modulation) or phase-modulate (FM modulation) a laser beam. Made of CdTe, they are used with HeNe lasers operating at 3.391µm, CO lasers operating at 5 to 7 µm, and CO2 lasers operating at 9 to 11 µm.
